Hiring somebody to build your website can feel a little confusing. One company tells you one thing and the next company tells you something completely different. Prices are all over the place too. At CT Website Design, we have been doing this since 2011, and our advice is pretty simple. Ask questions before you spend any money. A good Web Designer in CT should have no problem giving you straight answers.

Who Is Actually Building My Website?

This is a question we think more people should ask. Are you talking to the person doing the work or are you talking to a salesperson? Is your website being built locally or sent somewhere else? At CT Website Design, there is no mystery. I am the owner; I answer the phone, and I build the websites. I never outsource the work. If you call with a question about your site, you are talking to the same person who is actually working on it.

How Much Is This Going to Cost Me?

Just ask. You should not have to sit through a long sales pitch before somebody will talk about money. Our standard five page website is $2,000. A five page WordPress website is $2,500. Need more pages? They are $100 each for a standard website and $150 each for WordPress. We even have a website cost calculator on our site so you can play around with the numbers yourself before you ever pick up the phone.

When Do I Have to Pay?

This one is important because different website companies handle payments differently. With us, there is no money due up front. We start working on your website and put together the rough draft first. You look it over and make sure you like where things are going. Once you approve the rough draft, you pay 50 percent. The other 50 percent is not due until the finished website is live on the server of your choice. We have always felt that was a pretty fair way to do things.

Can I See Websites You Have Already Built?

Please ask this. Better yet, go look at them yourself. Do not just look at a screenshot either. Visit the actual websites. Click around. Pull them up on your phone. See if they are easy to use. We have built hundreds of websites since 2011, and we are happy to let our work speak for itself. A Website Designer that CT business owners are considering should be able to show real work for real businesses.

What About SEO?

This is a big one because there is a difference between having a website and having people actually find it. Basic SEO is included with the websites we build. We pay attention to things like page titles, content, mobile use, site structure, and the other basics that help search engines understand your website. Nobody can honestly promise you the number one position on Google. What we can do is make sure your new website starts off on the right foot.

Will My Website Work on a Phone?

It better. Think about how often you grab your phone when you need a local business. Your customers are doing the same thing. We want your phone number easy to find, your words easy to read, and your pages easy to move around. Nobody should have to zoom in just to read what you do. Mobile design is not an extra anymore. It is simply part of building a website the right way.

What Happens After My Website Goes Live?

This is where you can really learn something about the company you are considering. Some people are great at answering the phone when they are trying to get your business. The bigger question is whether they answer six months later. Websites need changes. Businesses change too. You might add a service, change a picture, hire somebody new, or just need help with something. We are located in East Haven, Connecticut, and we are still here after the website launches.

What Do Your Customers Say About You?

Do not skip the reviews. They can tell you things a portfolio cannot. Were people happy with the work? Was the designer easy to reach? Did they actually do what they promised? We are proud of our five-star Google reviews because those comments came from people who have already been through the process. If you are comparing us with another Web Designer in CT, read their reviews too. You should.

Do I Have Control of My Website?

This question can save you a headache later. Ask where the website will be hosted and what happens if you ever want to move it. You do not want to feel trapped after everything is finished. With CT Website Design, your finished site can go live on the server of your choice. In fact, that is when the final 50 percent payment is due.

Choosing a Website Designer should not come down to who has the fanciest sales pitch. Talk to the person. Ask what things cost. Ask who does the work. Look at their websites and read what their customers have to say. We have been building websites at CT Website Design since 2011, and we still believe doing good work and answering the phone goes a long way. If you are thinking about a new website, give us a call. Ask every question you have. You will be talking directly to the person who will build it.
