A lot of people think once their website is done, that’s it. They paid for it. It’s live. Time to focus on other things. But that’s not really how it works. In 2026, a website isn’t something you build once and forget about. Things change too fast. You should consider your site a tool not a brochure. At CT Website Design, we see this all the time. Someone calls us three or four years later and says, “Yeah… I haven’t touched it.”
First thing we usually ask is simple: when’s the last time you updated anything on it? Not rebuilt. Just updated. New photos. New service info. Maybe a blog post. If nothing’s changed in a year or two, that’s a red flag. As a web designer, I’ve noticed Google pays attention to activity. So do customers. If your site looks frozen in time, people feel it.
Security is another thing most folks don’t think about. WordPress updates. Plugins update. Hosting changes. If nobody’s checking that stuff, problems stack up quietly. Then one day, the site’s slow. Or worse, it’s hacked. A good website designer your business trusts should keep an eye on that. It’s not exciting work, but it definitely matters.
Design doesn’t need to change every year. But every few years? Probably. Styles shift. What felt modern in 2021 might feel dated now. Buttons look different. Layouts feel cleaner.
